New Public Website for Department of Revenue

Louisiana Department of Revenue gets a full redesign and rebuild of their public-facing website where people can get tax forms and refund information.

Three accountants discuss financial data across across information on paper and websites.

Baton Rouge, LA — The Office of Technology Services (OTS) completed a full redesign and rebuild of the Louisiana Department of Revenue’s (LDR) public-facing website.

The overhaul addressed what OTS identified as compounding failures in the existing site such as noncompliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a content update process that required outside intervention for even routine changes, and a site structure that made it difficult for visitors to find what they needed quickly. OTS says the new design prioritizes task completion over engagement. Engagement is when you want people to spend more time on your site, appropriate for shopping or learning sites.

The new site design also incorporates LDR’s brand and visual identity, provided by an external vendor. OTS incorporated the new brand and visual identity while using freely-available Google fonts to avoid licensing restrictions or making the browser download even more file resources.

LDR can make their updates faster now because OTS also incorporated a content management system.

Working with OTS on launching the LDR website was a partnership that continues to pay dividends. OTS worked closely with us during development and after the site went live to ensure that it meets the needs of all stakeholders, including LDR staff, policymakers, tax professionals and individual and business taxpayers. The support they continue to provide is invaluable.
