Clint Stein
Data Center Operations Director of Server Services
Creating a foundation for growth helps others and Louisiana’s infrastructure.
Meet Clint
Clint is a Director of Datacenter Operations (DCO) for the Office of Technology Services (OTS), where he focuses on server support. He oversees teams that manage and support the critical infrastructure for over 20 state agencies. This includes core services like Statewide Email, Active Directory and DNS, as well as the underlying technology such as Windows and Linux servers, VmWare and VxRail hyperconverged systems, and cloud computing.
Clint says the most meaningful part of his current role is empowering others to succeed. He finds great accomplishment in putting technicians and managers in the right positions to gain fulfillment in their own work. He wants other people to get the same career happiness he got earlier in his career. Back then he enjoyed the fulfillment of troubleshooting and project completion through user interaction. “I think people do the best work when they see what it brings to others.”
How He Started
His journey with the state began while he was studying for his degree in Information Systems (ISDS) at LSU, a business path for technology that also included statistical analysis. During this time, he worked as a student on the Hardware team at the Office of Computing Services (OCS) which supported the Division of Administration (DOA) agencies before the state’s IT consolidation. While there he’d diagnose servers and workstations and replace parts.
After graduation he learned about an open position from LeChell Smith, a former teammate from his student days who is now a Manager for the OTS DCO Hardware team. Clint interviewed with the Help Desk and workstation support team under OCS and got the job. His initial title was Information Technology Analyst 1. While he only planned to work there for a few years to gain experience, he never left. He credits his long and fulfilling career to working in a great environment and having been “blessed with great bosses” who prepared him for the future.
Where He Is Now
Clint has been with OTS since its inception, taking on various roles from technical lead to manager. Looking back, he highlights the formation of OTS itself as the biggest success and accomplishment he’s been a part of. Combining staff and expertise from across the state into a single organization was a huge undertaking, which he felt went smoothly. Additionally, a major task for DCO was consolidating the server infrastructure from all agencies into a single datacenter, a task they successfully accomplished.
Clint enjoys his current position as a Director and has no immediate plans to move elsewhere. However, he knows what he wants for his ultimate future: to be healthy and retired, able to enjoy that time by traveling and seeing the world.
